A first.....

I don't care what anybody says - I'm so excited!!! The daughter called yesterday to tell me that Em said her first word.

"Nana"

I couldn't be prouder of course. Most babies say dada first but not my Em. (I have not heard the actual word yet - but hopefully soon)

Sometimes a person has to get excited about little things like these. Life is too short and truthfully - sometimes it can be kind of boring. So...........

......woo hoo!!

Weekend Update - April 26/27

Not too much excitement this weekend. More puppy training, the NFL draft, a visit from the grand-daughter and a visit to the parents house. Some movies, a NASCAR race, a few hockey games and a nap. Not necessarily in that order.

In fact, the nap came during the NFL draft - which appalled my son. Hey, with 20 minutes in between each pick a woman can get in some good power naps!

The husband and the son picked on me a little bit about the draft. No, not because I slept through most of it - but because the Vikings picked a quarterback that I can not stand!! Not because of his athletic ability but because of his name. The commentary guys do not refer to this kid by just his last name but by all THREE of his names - ALL the time!! It gets really annoying and if he ends up being our quarterback I don't know if I will be able to watch/listen to Viking games. I guess I'll have to put the TV on mute and read the commentaries.

I watched a couple movies over the weekend. Call it Hockey burn out. The husband and the son could watch hockey 24/7 - 365 days a year. Not me. I need a break once in awhile. So, I went to the Red Box and picked up some movies - none of which were very good. Everyone told me Juno was excellent - It was OK. Then I saw Charlie Wilson's War - another one that was just OK. Then the big mistake - Atonement. Slow, confusing - just not a good Saturday night, keep me awake kind of movie. My mistake - I should have saved my $3.18 and picked out some movies on my shelf. Tried and true - no mistakes.

The best part of the weekend was of course the visit from the grand-daughter. Kobi and Em are getting to know each other and I think/hope they will be good friends. She doesn't seem as afraid of him as she was last week and he slows down around her faster. She learned that if she holds her hand out to him - he will lick it. Could be the beginning of a wonderful friendship.........

Web Site Wednesday

The radio station I listen to gives out some interesting web sites each Wednesday.

I thought THIS one was interesting - and a little depressing.

But this one is fascinating!! I should have saved it for Mother's Day but I couldn't wait. All mothers should want their husbands and children to see this site.

Relay for Life 2008

The kick off for the SSP Relay for Life was last night. August seems so far away but it will be here before we know it. We received our packets and a lot of information and today cousin Tilly got the website up and running. Here is a link -

Another Monday.......

It's the beginning of another week and the first day the puppy has had to stay home by himself. He has been in a Kennel before when his foster mom worked all day, so this is nothing new to him. I guess I'm just the one feeling guilty!! He gave me the sad look when I left.

I found this great book in the Library at my work last week called "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff.....". I've been thumbing through it and it is very inspirational. It's about not allowing ourselves to get all worked up about things that really aren't a big deal and instead spend more energy enjoying the magic and beauty of life. Humm.....something to think about.........

Weekend Update - Sunday

Well, we survived the first night with the new puppy. He is very lovey and doesn't like it when people leave him. He did great for the first night. I showed him his corner and blankets and he was there sleeping all night. We have the house almost "puppy proofed" and the rooms that aren't have the doors shut. We're also getting used to shutting the gates in the yard and putting food up and/or away as soon as possible. He does have a name now. We spent all day on Saturday throwing names around and with a lot of help from family and friends we finally decided on Kobi. The daughter found it in the 5,001 baby names book and it reminded us of a famous basketball player (note: we are not a basketball type of family) and we liked the sound of it so we went for it. He didn't come to his old name (Rubin) and he seems to like this new one. I guess it will grow on him.

Weekend Update - Saturday

It was a very busy day for our family! We added a new member - a 7 month old Gordon Setter/Lab mix. He is a hand full but potty trained. We're the type of family that needs to have a dog around and the last few months since Zackie died it has been much too quiet in our home. This little/big guy will keep things rocking thats for sure!! (picture tomorrow)

Saturday was also Prom for my son's school. He cleans up real nice and I took this picture of him in his tux feeding his son for the very first time (mommy has been feeding the baby - because she has the equipment) and as you can see he is cherishing the moment.

another beautiful day? i think not!!!

Why do we only get one nice day? Can't we have a least two - or even three - nice days in a row? Yesterday was miserable and today no better. Rain, clouds, wind, cold. Jeez, a person needs some sun once in awhile!!! To cheer myself up I took a picture of some very real, very pretty flowers. Some day maybe I will be able to take some pictures of flowers that are outside. I'm not sure when that day will come.........until then, I guess these will have to do.

the beginning of the end.........

Yesterday, Tony brought home his graduation invitations that I ordered six months ago. They get you any way that they can - I purchased ten invitations for $8.98 (which I thought was a very good price!) and then they charged me $9 for handling (delivering them to the school). It's pretty bad when the handling is more than the actual item you ordered. Even still, I was excited to get them. Planning Tony's party has been in the back of my mind for many months. Just kind of lurking there ready to spring up on me. Prom is this weekend and I have a May 1st deadline to begin planning the party. (Reminder to self - call the bank regarding the loan. hahaha)

A Beautiful Day - Finally!!!

Wednesday, April 16
Today was absolutely beautiful!! We had sunshine, it was warm and the wind went away. Tony and I put the top down on the car - it felt great! I noticed that the hubby had taken down my front door Christmas wreath the other day and set it next to the garage. I usually leave it up until July just because people make comments about it. Since it was such a beautiful day and it finally feels like winter may be gone - I decided to take a picture of that wreath and say good bye cold icky weather - hello Spring!! It's about time!

Grandchildren

Tuesday, April 15

I was blessed with a visit from both of my grandbabies today! Emma was a barrel of laughs and Timothy was awake and he posed for pictures. They are both so sweet and I had a wonderful evening with them. This picture of Timothy is my "day 3" of my year long project. Taking pictures of moving babies is not the easiest thing to do!!

Monday mornings can be tough......

4/14/08

My Monday morning started out very well because of my wonderful Husband. Most people have coffee in the mornings to get going but not me. I hate coffee. My morning fix is a glass of chocolate milk. It gets me going and is also my breakfast. This has been a habit of mine for many, many years. Last week I ran out of Quik and I kept forgetting to pick some up. I think I was starting to go through withdrawals!! The husband saw that I had been out for some time so he made a special trip to the store on Sunday so that on Monday morning I would have my fix. He's so good to me. I decided that this thoughtful act was worth documenting for "Project 365".

Briday Shower Sunday

The hubby made me breakfast this morning and then I was off to my friend's daughter's bridal shower. It was a lot of fun and I hadn't seen my good friend since May of last year so it was a very special day for me.

I took the opportunity of the Shower to start my year-in-pictures. (this may be harder than I thought to do but I'm going to give it a try) The bride-to-be will be married in Jamaica so the theme for the Shower was tropical. I thought this picture said it all........

Family Get-Together (4/12/08)

This morning the Hubby and I went to breakfast with the parents and the nephews from out of state to a small cafe in our home town. Its one of those places that has been around forever and the food is wonderful. We don't get to see the boys very much so we really cherish the times we do get to see them. Later in the day we all got together at the parents home to have pizza and birthday cake for the niece that is also from out of state. She came to see her brothers and hang out with the family. She's going to be the big 18 this year and has matured into a beautiful young lady.

In between breakfast and Pizza the hubby and I went out to Eagan to get a Bridal Shower present. Next to the store we were going to is a PetCo and I talked the Hubby into going inside to look at the puppies - it's always adoption day on Saturdays. The hubby reluctantly - but obediently - went in with me. There was a 6 month old puppy that was the same breeds as our Zackie. Of course I fell in love with him and I think he felt the same way about me. We are not in a position yet for another pet so we left without him. I knew this going in and even though I knew I was torturing myself - I just had to see him. I have to believe that some day we will be blessed with another wonderful pet.

Day One - April 11, 2008

After being unsuccessful on my Yahoo blog (nobody could reply unless they were a member!) and my MYPAGE blog (the kids told me I was too old for myspace) I decided to give blogging one more try. I discovered blogspot.com after reading someone else's blog and decided that it had all the settings that I was looking for. So, I'm giving it one more shot.

It's hard to start off - it's almost like a blank scrap book page. After I decided that this blog site may work for me I had to figure out if I had enough going on in my life to write about. After making a list of possible subjects (yes, I am a list maker) I decided to give it a shot.

One of the ideas I got from another blogger is something called "Project 365". Every day for an entire year I will take at least one picture to document my daily life. The picture can be of anything!! I'm hoping that it will improve my photography knowledge (which isn't much) and at the end of the year I will have some wonderful pictures and memories. I think it is a great concept and only wish that I would have come across this idea earlier so I could have started on January 1st instead of April 11th. I guess better late than never.

That's it for my first posting. Whew!
